Gabh mo leithscéal? (Excuse me?)

“Wait a minute here. We just want to read some stories and play some games. Why are you asking for money?” Well, this project is, for the most part, a labor of love. I have had a passion for Celtic Culture, Languages and History, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Folklore and RPG gaming since I was a kid and have always wanted to build something like this to share that passion with others.

But there are costs involved. I do have to pay hosting fees to our provider to keep the servers up. I have paid for premium software to get the best features available in some cases and I try to donate to other authors, developers and artists who I feel have contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the project. But when you add it all up it gets a little expensive.

We Can Have Fun And Help Others

I do have a good paying job that I rely on for income and it has served me well for decades. I am a journeyman electrician working for a major airline. I’m not rich by any means but I am not destitute either. I do, however, tie a lot of time and money up into this hobby and if I can show my other household members that I am not doing it all alone, they give me a break about being online so much. So, you’ll not only be helping to support the various authors, artists, developers, hosting providers and others who I in turn support with the income gathered, you’ll also help keep me out of trouble. Haha.

Now, with regards to the Minecraft and Minetest games, we don’t do any pay to win kind of schemes or anything like that. I feel like doing so is unethical. People should be able to win the game (If you consider sandbox games to be games that needs to be “won” which I personally don’t but that’s another story for a blog post to come) because of their skills, not because of the money they send in. Plus, I’m pretty sure doing so is a violation of the EULA with Minecraft. But there are other perks for donors to kind of give them acknowledgment.

They get a shout-out here on the website and on the discord server they have their own role and access to the VIP chat channel, their own chat tag in game and the ability to wear almost anything as a hat. Later we might add more things for them as long as it’s just something for show and doesn’t give them an in game advantage over others because, again, we don’t do pay to “win” here. In any event, if you like what we have going on and would like to contribute to keep it going, please use my Patreon link below:
